Even better than the real thing

Watching them live in 1987 was simply out of question for me.  But Rattle and Hum was one of the first albums I bought, saving up hard earned eidi.

They came close to my city twice for the Zoo TV tour.  But it was the nadir of a really bad recession, and I was a poor unemployed youth.  We sat outside the stadium, sharing cigarettes.

Then, many years later, we were waiting for the show to begin when it seemed that he was walking around.  We had a Lonely Planet Paris book, which he signed.  Turned out, it wasn’t him.  I still hadn’t found what I was looking for.

Last week, we stood pretty much whence this was recorded from.  And then we walked out after two songs.  There are other things that are even better than the real thing.

Ending ta ektu beshi with-or-without-you marka hoye gelo na? 🙂 Walking out on U2 after two songs? Even though they’ve lost it over the years, hard to imagine what could have been better for someone who had waited so long.
